Is this a genuinely top-tier gaming PC build, and what should I improve?

I'm putting together an essentially no-compromise gaming setup and will have someone assemble it for me. I want the fastest, highest-end parts available, along with three monitors, a desk, chair, monitor arm, and peripherals. I'm especially interested in having a large amount of RAM, even if that is excessive for gaming. Are these truly the best choices, or are there stronger or more practical alternatives?

- GPU: ASUS ROG Matrix RTX 5090
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
- Motherboard: ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme
- RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB DDR5-6000 CL30 EXPO, listed as 128GB, model F5-6000J3038F16GX2-TZ5NR
- Storage: Samsung 990 PRO 4TB NVMe SSD
- PSU: Corsair AX1600i 1600W Titanium

The display and desk setup includes three ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM monitors, a HUANUO triple gas-spring monitor arm, a Secretlab Magnus Pro XL desk, a Secretlab Titan Evo chair, a Razer Viper V3 Pro mouse, and an ASUS ROG Azoth Extreme keyboard.

The memory specification needs to be fixed before ordering. The listed kit is not 128GB if it contains two 16GB modules, and a four-slot board cannot reach that capacity with only 16GB sticks. Also, using four DDR5 modules often requires lower speeds and looser settings. For a large-capacity gaming system, use a matched two-stick kit, such as 2x48GB or 2x64GB, and check the motherboard’s memory support list. If you meant 2x168GB, verify that such a kit actually exists and is supported; that capacity is not a normal desktop DDR5 option. More RAM will not improve gaming once you already have enough for your games and background apps.

I meant to use two very large memory sticks because I want maximum capacity, not just the cheapest option.

The 1600W power supply is far more than this system normally needs, but excess wattage is not harmful if the unit is high quality. The more important consideration is getting a modern ATX 3.x model with a native 12V-2x6 GPU connector instead of relying on adapters. A current Seasonic or comparable top-tier unit with that connector would be a better choice than an older model chosen only for its wattage rating. Also confirm that the case, GPU, radiators, and fan layout all have enough clearance before buying.

It’s an extremely high-end build, but “most expensive” doesn’t automatically mean “best for gaming.” A newer 9850X3D may be slightly faster if it’s available and priced reasonably, while the RTX 5090 is already the top performance tier. The Matrix version is mainly a premium cooler and design choice; it won’t perform dramatically faster than a less expensive RTX 5090. The Crosshair X870E Extreme is also difficult to justify unless you specifically need its extra connectivity, expansion features, or USB4 support. A high-quality B850 or more reasonably priced X870E board could deliver the same gaming performance.

That’s fair, but spending more only helps when the component actually improves performance. For example, a premium motherboard or luxury GPU model usually adds features rather than meaningful frame rates.

The overall setup looks solid, but three 4K OLED monitors are a lot to drive. The 5090 should handle demanding games on the primary display, but running a game across all three at once will be extremely demanding. Consider using one main monitor for gaming and the others for applications, or confirm that the games you play support the intended multi-monitor resolution. Make sure the monitor arm is rated for the exact weight and mounting pattern of all three displays.
