Is This a Good $1,000 Gaming PC Build, and What Would You Change?

I'm planning a gaming PC with a budget of about $1,000. The build is intended to use a matcha-green and black color scheme, with the matcha accents coming from the case and cable covers. I'm shopping in the United States and don't have access to a Micro Center. Is this parts list well-balanced, and are there any components you would replace or adjust for better gaming performance or value?

The parts list looks reasonable overall, especially if everything is new. If you need to free up money for a stronger graphics card or a better SSD, buying select used components could lower the total cost, although you should verify the seller, condition, and return policy first.

I’d replace the Gen 3 NVMe drive with a Gen 4 model if the price is close. The motherboard supports faster PCIe 4.0 storage, and several good Gen 4 SSDs are available for around $90–$100. Even spending about $10 more can be worthwhile if you have room in the budget.

You could consider switching to an Intel Core i5-14400F with a compatible B760 DDR4 motherboard. The CPU costs only a little more but offers roughly 5% better gaming performance and substantially stronger all-core performance than the current processor. That said, the inexpensive ASUS B760M-AYW WIFI D4 II has weak VRMs, limited rear I/O, and no debug LEDs. A higher-quality LGA1700 board would add enough cost to strain the budget, so your current AM4 setup may still be the better value overall.

That makes sense. I’d rather keep the budget under control, and having a reasonable upgrade option is useful, so I may stick with AM4.
