I'm putting together a gaming PC as a birthday gift for my brother and have a budget of about $1,700, with a little flexibility. I can get the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Gigabyte X870 Gaming WiFi6 motherboard, and 32GB of DDR5-6000 memory as a bundle for around $760. The rest of the parts are an ASRock Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB for about $470, a 1TB Samsung 9100 PRO Gen 5 NVMe SSD for $250, an MSI MAG A750GL 750W Gold modular power supply for $85, a Lian Li 360mm liquid cooler for $100, and a Lian Li Vector V100 Mini tempered-glass case. Is this a well-balanced build, and should it remain useful for gaming for roughly five to seven years? Are there any parts I should change?

This will be a strong and more-than-sufficient PC, but the parts aren’t perfectly balanced for gaming. The 7800X3D is an excellent gaming CPU, while the RX 9060 XT is comparatively modest for the rest of the system. If you can adjust the budget, putting more money toward the graphics card would usually improve gaming performance more than buying a top-end CPU or Gen 5 SSD.
The build should last several years if expectations are realistic. It shouldn’t simply break down after two or three years, assuming the parts are decent and the system is kept clean. Over time, the graphics card will most likely be the first component you’d want to upgrade, especially for newer games or higher resolutions.
So the graphics card would probably be the biggest future upgrade rather than the processor or motherboard?
The overall parts list is solid, but I’d take a close look at the SSD choice. A $250 1TB Gen 5 drive is expensive, and most gaming systems won’t see a meaningful improvement over a much cheaper 1TB or 2TB Gen 4 NVMe SSD. The savings could go toward a faster graphics card or additional storage. Also verify that the Mini case supports the 360mm radiator and that the motherboard, cooler, and graphics card physically fit before ordering.
The graphics card is the most expensive individual part at around $470, but I understand that the CPU and bundle may be more powerful than necessary.
