I'm running a Ryzen 7 3700X with an RTX 3060 Ti and 64GB of DDR4-3200 memory. Newer games are putting a noticeable load on the CPU, and I'm considering upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D while keeping my current AM4 motherboard and memory. I plan to keep this build for at least another three years and intend to skip AM5 unless platform prices drop substantially. Would the 5800X3D be worthwhile, or would a less expensive 5500X3D make more sense?

The upgrade is worthwhile, and the 5800X3D has aged very well for an AM4 gaming system. Just keep expectations realistic: with an RTX 3060 Ti, you may eventually be GPU-limited at higher settings or resolutions, but the stronger CPU should improve frame-time consistency and minimum FPS.
The 5500X3D could be a good value if it costs around half as much, but the 5800X3D is the safer choice if you’re skipping AM5 and want to keep the system for several more years.
It depends on whether your current games are actually CPU-bottlenecked. Since you’re already seeing a strong CPU limitation in newer titles, upgrading the processor makes sense. If that changes, the RTX 3060 Ti will likely become the limiting component instead.
The CPU is definitely the bottleneck in the newer games I’m playing, so I’m mainly trying to improve that without rebuilding around AM5.
