I'm considering replacing my current i9-10850K and RTX 3090 system with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and Radeon RX 9070 XT setup. I wouldn't be able to sell the old PC because I'd give it to a family member, so I'm trying to figure out whether the upgrade would provide a clearly noticeable improvement at 4K or whether I should keep the current system longer.

The RX 9070 XT is faster than the RTX 3090 in raw performance, but the improvement may not feel huge at 4K. The 3090 still has strong memory bandwidth and 24GB of VRAM, while features such as DLSS can also affect the practical result depending on the games you play.
I’d upgrade the graphics card first and keep the i9-10850K for now. At 4K, the GPU is usually the limiting part, so replacing the entire platform may not be necessary unless you’re playing CPU-heavy games or targeting very high frame rates.
The 7800X3D can provide a meaningful gaming improvement in some titles, even at 4K, but the results vary. A 9070 XT would be a more appealing jump from an RTX 3080 than from a 3090, so your current GPU makes the upgrade less compelling. If you’re spending around $2,000 before tax, it may be better to save for a higher-end graphics card.
