I currently have an Intel Core Ultra 5 250K Plus and mainly play CPU-sensitive games such as Overwatch using DirectX 11. My graphics card is a Radeon RX 9070 XT, and I'm considering playing The Witcher 3 at 4K. What kind of real-world performance improvement could I expect from switching to a Ryzen 7 9800X3D? In particular, how many additional frames might I see in Overwatch, and would the upgrade meaningfully improve 1% lows?

For Overwatch, the 9800X3D could be faster if you’re targeting very high frame rates and your current processor is holding the GPU back, but the exact gain depends heavily on resolution and settings. At 4K, the difference will usually shrink because the graphics card becomes the bottleneck. Before replacing the CPU, try tuning or overclocking the memory and check GPU usage during matches.

There isn’t a reliable FPS number without knowing your settings, refresh rate, and whether the GPU or CPU is limiting performance. If the GPU is already near 100% usage, a CPU upgrade may add almost nothing beyond possibly minor changes to frame-time consistency. You’ll see more benefit in situations where the GPU is underutilized, such as competitive games at lower settings and resolutions.
