I'm planning a new gaming PC with a Gigabyte B850 AORUS ELITE WIFI7 motherboard, a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, and an RTX 4070 Ti Super. The board supports both AMD EXPO and Intel XMP memory profiles. An XMP-based DDR5-6000 kit I'm considering is about $120 cheaper than the equivalent EXPO kit. Will using XMP memory cause any noticeable gaming performance or frame-rate loss on this system, or is EXPO worth paying extra for?

The main difference is the profile standard, not the actual memory hardware. If the board can read the XMP profile, the RAM should run at its advertised settings. You might need to select the profile manually or adjust a few settings if it doesn’t apply automatically, but there’s no inherent gaming penalty for choosing XMP over EXPO.
It should work fine. XMP and EXPO are both preconfigured memory profiles; XMP is primarily marketed for Intel systems, while EXPO is designed for AMD. Since this motherboard supports both, you can enable the XMP profile in the BIOS—Gigabyte may label the setting as XMP or DOCP. At DDR5-6000, you shouldn’t see a meaningful gaming performance difference compared with an EXPO kit.
The 7800X3D is relatively forgiving when it comes to memory speed, so faster RAM usually has only a small effect on frame rates with this CPU. DDR5-6000 is already a solid target for AM5, and using a compatible XMP kit shouldn’t cause a noticeable drop in performance. Saving the $120 makes sense as long as the kit is on the motherboard’s compatibility list and has suitable timings.
