My laptop stays at 0% battery and only works while the charger is connected. As soon as I unplug it, it powers off completely. I've already restarted it, held the power button for about 30 seconds to discharge residual power, checked every charger connection, tried another outlet, and left it charging for half an hour before turning it on again. None of that helped. What should I check next, and does the battery likely need to be replaced?

The battery may have failed completely and could need replacement. If you’re not comfortable opening the laptop or don’t have the right tools, taking it to a repair shop is the safest option.
If the battery is detachable internally, a technician—or someone experienced with laptop repairs—could disconnect the battery cable, connect the charger, and see whether the laptop boots normally. After shutting it down, they can reconnect the battery and test it again. Don’t attempt this unless you’re comfortable working inside the laptop.
If this is a Dell laptop, inspect the charger’s center pin and connector. A bent or damaged pin can let the laptop recognize the charger while preventing it from charging the battery. If the pin looks damaged, the charger or charging port may need service.

I haven’t replaced it yet because I don’t have the tools or experience, so I’ll probably take it to a repair shop.
