Laptop Won’t Power On After Closing It at the BitLocker Recovery Screen

My laptop has been asking for the BitLocker recovery key during startup for about a month, but I kept putting it off. Today, the recovery screen appeared again, and I closed the lid before entering the key. When I opened it shortly afterward, the display was black and pressing the power button did nothing. It also showed no response when I connected the charger. Could this be a simple power or hardware issue, or might the laptop be permanently damaged? Should I try anything at home before taking it to a repair shop?

It may be a power or hardware failure rather than a BitLocker problem. Try disconnecting the charger, holding the power button down for 20–30 seconds, then reconnecting the charger and attempting to start it again. If the battery is removable, take it out first and try powering on with the charger connected. Also check whether any charging light, keyboard light, fan noise, or other sign of life appears.

If a full power reset does nothing and there are no lights or sounds, the laptop may need to be opened and inspected for a loose battery connection, damaged charging circuit, or another component failure. The fact that it worked before you closed the lid doesn’t rule out a hardware problem—something could have failed during sleep or when the lid was moved. BitLocker itself normally prevents access to the drive; it shouldn’t stop the laptop from powering on.
