While playing a game and talking with a friend, my ASUS ROG Ally suddenly began stuttering and freezing before shutting down. This has only happened once. After restarting, I ran DISM and sfc /scannow, but the system file check appears to stop at 34%. Chrome also logged me out afterward. What should I try to diagnose and fix the problem?

Since this was the first time it happened, don’t assume the system is permanently damaged. SFC and DISM can pause at the same percentage for quite a while, so avoid interrupting them immediately. If the repair commands repeatedly fail, run Windows Update, reboot, and try again. If the crashes continue, check Event Viewer or Reliability Monitor for the error recorded at the time of the shutdown.
It only happened once so far, but I’ll try `/RestoreHealth` first and let the scan run longer before restarting anything.
Try running DISM with the repair option rather than just checking the image. Open Terminal or Command Prompt as administrator and run `DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth`. Let it finish completely, even if the percentage appears stuck for a while. Then restart the Ally and run `sfc /scannow` again. A one-time crash can also be caused by overheating, a graphics driver issue, or a game crash, so check temperatures and update the ASUS, Windows, and GPU drivers afterward.
