While playing a game during a voice call, my ASUS ROG Ally suddenly began stuttering and freezing before shutting down. After restarting, I ran DISM and sfc /scannow, but the system file check gets stuck at 34%. I was also logged out of Chrome. This is the first time it has happened. What should I try to diagnose and repair the problem?

Since this was a one-time crash, it could have been a temporary driver, overheating, or power issue. Check whether the Ally feels unusually hot, make sure its vents aren’t blocked, and look in Windows Event Viewer or Reliability Monitor for errors around the time it shut down. If it happens again, note whether it crashes only in one game or under heavy load.
Try running DISM with /RestoreHealth rather than /CheckHealth, then run sfc /scannow again from an administrator Command Prompt. DISM can take a while, so let it finish instead of interrupting it. If SFC still hangs, restart the device and check for Windows, Armoury Crate, graphics-driver, and BIOS updates.
