My Infinix Laptop Charger Stopped Working After Charging a Phone

I used the original charger that came with my Infinix laptop, which I believe is a 45W USB-C charger, to charge my son's phone. Afterward, the charger stopped working with both the phone and the laptop. I've tried restarting the laptop and plugging the charger into a different mains outlet, but there's still no response. Is there anything else I should test before replacing the charger?

Using a laptop charger with a phone is generally safe when it supports standard USB-C Power Delivery. The charger and phone negotiate the appropriate voltage and current, so the phone should only draw what it needs. The failure may simply be a damaged charger, cable, or outlet rather than something caused by charging the phone.

Try a different compatible USB-C cable and confirm the outlet works with another device. Check the charger and its connectors for heat damage, a burnt smell, bent pins, or looseness. If the charger still does not power either device, stop using it and replace it with a reputable USB-C PD charger that matches the laptop’s required wattage—possibly 65W if that is the laptop’s specification.

A phone does not automatically damage a proper USB-C PD laptop charger. Many people use their laptop chargers for phones without problems. However, if the charger has failed with both devices, it should be treated as faulty rather than repeatedly tested.
