My PC has been crashing at regular intervals for months. It originally lasted about four hours before crashing, but now it fails roughly every 2.5 hours. The crashes happen during gaming, while idle, in standby, and even during memory testing. I paid a computer repair shop to diagnose it and they replaced or tested every major component except the Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU, but the problem continued. I installed the CPU in a friend's computer and it ran for more than four hours without crashing. After putting it back in my own system, the crashes returned. I have reinstalled Windows several times and cleaned the CPU with rubbing alcohol before reapplying it. Should I buy another CPU, or are there better tests I can perform first?

I wouldn’t buy another CPU yet. Since the processor ran normally in another computer, the motherboard, socket contact, power delivery, BIOS settings, or PSU are more suspicious. Check Event Viewer under Windows Logs > System for WHEA-Logger hardware errors and Kernel-Power 41 entries, and inspect any crash minidumps. Also update the motherboard BIOS and test memory with one stick at a time using MemTest86.
The motherboard is a strong possibility, especially if the CPU works reliably in another system. Inspect the socket carefully for bent contacts, reseat the CPU and RAM, and test with only the essential hardware connected. BIOS power-management options such as C-States can also be temporarily disabled as a troubleshooting step, though that is more of a diagnostic test than a permanent fix.
Try checking EXPO and the SoC voltage in the BIOS. Temporarily disable EXPO and run the memory at its default settings. On AM5 systems, an unstable memory profile or excessive SoC voltage can cause intermittent crashes. You can also monitor the PSU rails with hardware-monitoring software, although a multimeter or PSU tester is more trustworthy than software readings. If possible, test with a known-good PSU.
A CPU that works in another computer makes the CPU itself much less likely to be defective. The other system may have different BIOS settings, memory training, power delivery, or background load, but the more useful clue is that moving the same processor changes the problem. I’d focus on isolating the motherboard, PSU, RAM settings, and socket before spending money on another 7800X3D.

I have already tried most of the standard tests and disabled C-States before, but I still need to check the EXPO/SoC settings and verify the PSU rails more carefully.
