The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and RTX 5070 12GB are only about $80 apart where I live. I'm mainly deciding between the 5070's stronger gaming and compute performance and the 5060 Ti's additional 4GB of VRAM. The PC will be used for gaming, AI/ML development, programming, and some Blender and 3D work. Is the 5070 the better overall buy, or would the 16GB of VRAM on the 5060 Ti be more useful for AI, rendering, and future-proofing? Which one would you choose?

The answer depends heavily on how important AI/ML is. VRAM capacity is often the main limitation for local models, and a workload that does not fit in 12GB can become dramatically slower when it spills into regular RAM. If gaming is the priority, get the 5070; if AI and large scenes are a major part of the build, the 5060 Ti 16GB has a legitimate advantage.

The 5060 Ti is much slower, though, so its 16GB should be viewed as a capacity advantage rather than a performance advantage. For workloads that fit in 12GB, the 5070 should win clearly.

If you plan to replace the card in a couple of generations and mostly play games, buy the 5070. If you keep hardware for many years and regularly use local AI or memory-heavy 3D projects, I’d lean toward the 5060 Ti 16GB—or save for a faster 16GB card, which would combine better performance with more usable VRAM.

At only an $80 difference, the 5070 is the better general-purpose value. Its performance cannot be added later by changing a setting, while the 5060 Ti’s extra VRAM only helps when a workload actually exceeds 12GB. Choose the 5060 Ti only if you already know your AI or rendering workloads need that capacity.

For mostly gaming, I’d choose the RTX 5070 without much hesitation. It has substantially more compute performance, and the extra $80 is worthwhile. The 5060 Ti’s 16GB of VRAM doesn’t automatically make it faster, especially when the GPU itself is considerably weaker.

That recommendation assumes the workload fits within 12GB. For AI or large Blender scenes that exceed 12GB, the 5060 Ti may be usable while the 5070 could require offloading data to system memory.

For Blender, the 5070 is generally the stronger choice because its additional compute capability makes rendering faster. For AI, the extra 4GB on the 5060 Ti can matter more than raw speed, particularly for larger models or projects that need to remain entirely in VRAM. Check the actual memory requirements of the software and models you plan to use before deciding.
