I'm in the Philippines and want to upgrade my PC. I can buy either an RX 6700 XT or an RTX 3070 for about $245, which is right at my $250 budget. I mainly play at 1080p, including Marvel Rivals and other AAA games, and I also use the system for graphic design and occasional light video editing such as short reels with minimal effects.
My current build is:
- Ryzen 5 5600G
- Radeon RX 6500 XT
- 32GB DDR4-3200 RAM
- ASUS Prime A520M-K motherboard
- FSP HV Pro 500W power supply
I plan to replace the power supply before upgrading the graphics card, possibly with a Sama B750 or Cooler Master MWE Bronze 650W. Which GPU would be the better choice for my use case?

The RTX 3070 is generally faster in many games and has stronger upscaling and software support. At 1080p, its 8GB VRAM is usually manageable if you lower textures in demanding newer titles. For simple video editing, NVIDIA’s encoder and broader application support can also be useful, although your workloads don’t sound heavy enough to make it essential.
For mostly 2D design work and light editing, you probably don’t need NVIDIA-specific CUDA or OptiX features. The RX 6700 XT is a strong choice and its 12GB of VRAM gives it more room for high-resolution textures, especially in newer games or if you eventually move to 1440p. It performs very well even beyond 1080p.
Would CUDA or OptiX still matter if I occasionally edit short videos for work? The projects are simple reels with minimal effects.
Both cards are reasonable at the same price. I’d lean toward the RTX 3070 for 1080p because of its gaming performance and software features, but the RX 6700 XT is the safer long-term option if you plan to use higher textures or upgrade to a 1440p monitor. Its 12GB VRAM is a meaningful advantage. Whichever card you choose, replacing the 500W power supply with a reputable 650W-or-higher unit first is a good idea.
When people say NVIDIA has better software, do they mean better drivers, upscaling, or something else?
