I'm upgrading from an RTX 3070 and currently have a Ryzen 7 9850X3D with 32GB of RAM. My main use is 1440p gaming, and I'd prefer to save money while still getting a strong performance upgrade. The RX 9070 XT is available for around $699, while RTX 5070 Ti models are selling between $999 and $1,300. Is the Nvidia card's ray tracing, upscaling, encoder, and software support worth paying $300 or more extra, or would the 9070 XT be the better value?

The 9070 XT is the better buy unless you’re willing to pay for Nvidia’s feature set. Some owners have reported driver timeouts or crashes in particular games, especially certain Unreal Engine titles, while others have had no issues at all. I’d only move to the 5070 Ti if the price dropped closer to $800–$900, or if you plan to use demanding ray tracing, path tracing, CUDA, or other Nvidia-focused workloads.
For 1440p gaming, the RX 9070 XT is the obvious value choice at roughly $699. The two cards are generally close in standard rasterized performance, while the 5070 Ti pulls ahead in ray tracing and offers Nvidia-specific features such as DLSS and CUDA. Those advantages usually aren’t worth a $300–$600 premium unless you specifically need them for your games or software.
At $999 or more, the 5070 Ti is difficult to recommend for regular 1440p gaming. You’d be paying a huge premium for relatively modest average performance gains. The RX 9070 XT should provide an excellent upgrade from the RTX 3070, and you can reconsider Nvidia later if its prices become more reasonable.
I’d choose the 9070 XT for gaming and streaming. It gives you more performance per dollar, and the price gap is simply too large. The 5070 Ti becomes more appealing for heavy rendering, AI workloads, CUDA-dependent applications, or if you strongly prioritize Nvidia’s ray tracing and upscaling features. For Power BI, SQL, Python, and Excel, you probably won’t gain much from Nvidia-specific GPU support.

If you’re streaming from a single PC, Nvidia’s encoder is a legitimate advantage, but it still may not justify paying several hundred dollars more unless streaming quality and encoder compatibility are especially important to you.
