I'm planning to build a new mid-to-high-end PC with a budget of around £2,000. I'm unsure whether to buy the parts now or wait until next year in the hope that memory prices will fall. Is there any good reason to expect RAM to become cheaper, or are prices more likely to stay high or increase?

If you need the PC soon, there isn’t a clear reason to wait specifically for cheaper RAM. Memory pricing can change quickly, and shortages may keep prices elevated, so buying when you’re ready is probably safer than trying to time the market.
The same general uncertainty applies to other components too. Some parts, such as graphics cards, can also rise in price unexpectedly, so waiting only makes sense if you don’t need the computer yet and are prepared to accept whatever the market looks like later.
For an AM5 build, you’ll be buying DDR5, and there’s no guarantee it will get cheaper over the next year. Prices might eventually ease when the next memory generation becomes widespread, but that could take a while. Set a reasonable budget and buy the parts when the overall build makes sense.
