Should I Buy Technology Now Before Prices Rise Further?

You already have several capable computers, so there doesn’t seem to be an urgent reason to buy an M4 Mac mini or spare parts. A 2012 MacBook Pro can still handle many everyday tasks, which is a good reminder that useful hardware can last a long time. Avoid buying out of fear of rising prices; replace or upgrade when your current equipment no longer meets your needs.

The market may be affected by demand for AI hardware and the cost of expanding data centers, but nobody knows whether current prices are a temporary peak or the beginning of a longer trend. Because of that uncertainty, I’d avoid speculative purchases and focus on normal sale prices, warranties, and hardware that can be upgraded or repaired.

There’s no reliable way to predict which components will become more expensive. In general, buy only what you’re likely to use soon. Hardware prices can also fall as newer models arrive, so stocking up can leave you with older equipment that has lost value. If you do upgrade, prioritize devices that are repairable and modular, with replaceable storage and RAM rather than everything soldered to the motherboard. That can reduce long-term costs and extend the useful life of the system.

Prices may come down, and buying early is not automatically a saving. Some people do get lucky when a system they bought later becomes much more expensive, but that’s difficult to predict. If you need a computer soon and expect to keep it for many years, buying a good system at a reasonable price can make sense. Otherwise, keep the money invested or available rather than storing unused technology.
