I'm building a new PC and deciding between 32GB and 64GB of RAM. The upgrade costs about $260, and I probably won't use all 64GB immediately. However, I'm concerned that memory prices may rise and that I'll regret not buying the larger kit now. I'll mainly use the system for gaming and general work, but I may eventually explore AI tools or other demanding applications. Is 64GB worthwhile for that, and is the motherboard in my planned build a good choice or should I consider a different model?

The planned motherboard appears suitable, so I wouldn’t replace it without a specific feature you need, such as additional PCIe 5.0 lanes, storage connections, or better expansion options. Whichever capacity you choose, prioritize a properly matched kit and check the board’s memory compatibility. Two modules are generally easier to run reliably than four.
I’ve used 32GB for gaming, video editing, and image editing without needing more. Most games and normal work should be fine with that amount for years. If your workload grows into large datasets, multiple virtual machines, or intensive analysis software, then 64GB becomes a more reasonable baseline; truly huge datasets may justify 96GB or 128GB.
For gaming and ordinary desktop use, 32GB is already plenty. I’d only choose 64GB if you regularly work with large databases, virtual machines, containers, professional video or photo tools, CAD, or other memory-heavy workloads. Future-proofing can be a trap, so base the decision on what you’re actually likely to run.
It can help with larger models and multitasking, but the GPU’s VRAM is usually the more important limitation for local AI. For occasional experimentation, 32GB can still be workable.
If the extra $260 won’t hurt your budget, 64GB gives you more breathing room and avoids needing to replace the kit later. Memory prices can change unpredictably, though, so don’t buy extra capacity solely because you’re worried about future pricing. More RAM by itself won’t improve gaming performance unless you were already running out.
I agree that 64GB is more of a convenience and capacity upgrade than an FPS upgrade. It’s worthwhile mainly if you’ll use demanding software or keep many applications open.
