I'm upgrading from an i5-9400F and comparing two similarly priced AM5 bundles. One includes a Ryzen 5 7600X3D with 32GB of RAM, while the other has a Ryzen 7 7800X3D with only 16GB. I'll mainly be gaming at 1440p with an RTX 3060 12GB for now, though I'm hoping to upgrade to something around an RX 9070 XT later. The CPUs seem fairly close in 1440p gaming performance, but I'm unsure whether it's better to prioritize the stronger processor or avoid starting with just 16GB of memory.

The 32GB bundle makes more sense, especially if you plan to use a faster graphics card later. Many newer games can push past 16GB of total system memory, and multitasking with a game plus several browser tabs can cause stuttering when RAM runs short. The 7600X3D is still a very capable gaming CPU at 1440p.
The 7800X3D option is only worth considering if you specifically need its extra cores for rendering, video work, or heavy multitasking. You can add more RAM later, so 7800X3D plus 16GB isn’t unusable, but I’d replace the kit with a matched 2x16GB set rather than adding another random 2x8GB kit. For gaming alone, the 7600X3D and 32GB is the more balanced choice.
I’d choose the 7600X3D with 32GB. At 1440p, the gaming difference between these CPUs is usually small, while the extra memory is much more useful for modern games, browser tabs, and background apps. You can always upgrade the CPU later, but starting with 16GB may become frustrating sooner than expected.

I’m running a 7800X3D with 16GB and it still works for gaming and a few browser tabs, so 16GB isn’t automatically a disaster. I’d still prefer 32GB in a new build because it gives more headroom.
