I'm building my first PC and deciding between an RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and an RTX 5070 12GB. I mainly play story-driven games such as The Witcher and Souls titles, and I want to run demanding games at high settings with smooth frame rates rather than chase maximum performance. My setup uses two 1080p 180Hz monitors, and I don't expect to upgrade them because I may move abroad and sell the entire PC in about a year. The price difference is roughly $60–$80, depending on the model. Is the RTX 5070 worth paying extra for its higher performance and potentially better resale value, or would the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB be the smarter choice for my use case?

If you’re definitely selling the whole system in about a year, the 5060 Ti 16GB is still a sensible value choice. It should deliver a good 1080p experience in story games, and you may not recover the full cost of the faster card when you sell. However, with only a $60–$70 gap, the 5070 offers noticeably more headroom and is the stronger overall buy.
For 1080p, 12GB of VRAM is generally enough, so the extra VRAM on the 5060 Ti 16GB probably won’t matter as much as the 5070’s additional performance. Since you want high settings and have 180Hz displays, I’d lean toward the 5070 unless saving that money is a priority. The 5060 Ti 8GB could also handle 1080p, but it may require lowering texture or other maximum settings in some newer games.
The RTX 5070 is around 20–30% faster and will be better suited to high-refresh-rate gaming, even at 1080p. It also gives you the option to use DLDSR for sharper-looking visuals on your existing monitors. If the price difference is only about $60–$75, the 5070 is probably worth it and may be easier to resell later.
The difference should be about $70, or possibly closer to $60 if I choose a dual-fan RTX 5070 model.
I did consider the 8GB model, but I’m concerned it could run into limitations when I try to max out settings in newer games.
