I'm putting together a small-form-factor ITX gaming PC with a Radeon 9060 XT 16GB and will mainly be playing at 1440p. I can get either the Core 250K for about $135 or the Ryzen 5 7600X3D for around $200. Which processor would make more sense for this build? I'm especially interested in gaming performance, temperatures, noise, and whether either option offers better upgrade potential.

For this graphics card at 1440p, gaming performance should be fairly close, so the GPU will usually be the limiting factor. The 250K offers stronger multicore performance and may be the better all-around value, but check its actual power draw. In a compact ITX case, the 7600X3D should be easier to cool and keep quiet.
I’d choose the 7600X3D for the extra 3D V-Cache. It can improve frame-time consistency and 1% lows in CPU-limited games, and it gives you more flexibility if you install a much faster graphics card later. At this price difference, the cooler and quieter operation are also valuable in a small case.
Since this is primarily a gaming build, the 7600X3D is the safer pick. The 250K’s extra multicore performance is useful for productivity, but it probably won’t translate into much difference with a 9060 XT at 1440p. Make sure the case airflow and CPU cooler are suitable either way, especially if you choose the higher-power chip.

That’s why I’d lean toward the 7600X3D in an SFF system. A louder, higher-speed cooler is more noticeable day to day than losing a few frames per second.
