I'm building a gaming PC around a Ryzen 5 7500X3D and mainly plan to play at 1440p, with possible 4K gaming later. My budget leaves me with two choices: either 16GB of RAM in a single stick paired with an RX 9070 XT, or 32GB using two 16GB sticks paired with an RX 9070. Which option would provide the more noticeable performance and better overall experience? I'm hoping not to upgrade the system for at least four or five years.

The ideal compromise is the first option now, followed by another 16GB stick as soon as possible. The 9070 XT gives the larger immediate gaming performance boost, while upgrading from 16GB to 32GB later should be straightforward. If you cannot afford or reliably find compatible RAM later, choose the 9070 with 32GB instead, since that will provide the more balanced experience today.
I’d go with the RX 9070 and 2x16GB instead. Dual-channel memory can improve average FPS and, more importantly, 1% lows, while 32GB gives the system much more breathing room for current games, browser tabs, and background programs. The difference between the two GPUs is relatively small, but running out of RAM can cause stutters and a generally worse experience.
I’d choose the RX 9070 XT and add another 16GB stick later. At 1440p and especially 4K, the GPU is usually the more important component, and the XT is roughly 10–12% faster. RAM is also much easier to upgrade later than replacing a graphics card.
That makes sense if another stick is definitely coming soon. Just make sure the replacement or additional module matches the original closely, since 16GB can already be tight with some modern games and background applications.
Some games can use close to 18GB of system memory even before you count Windows and other programs, so 16GB may feel restrictive sooner than expected.
