Deadlock is my main game right now, and I'm considering upgrading my PC. I currently have an Intel Core i5-12600K and an RTX 3050 8GB. I'm leaning toward replacing the GPU first, but I'm wondering whether that would also noticeably improve performance in CPU-heavy games, or if I would need a CPU upgrade for those titles. I built the system myself with a 650W Bronze-rated power supply, though I didn't do much research when choosing the parts.

Your 12600K is still more than serviceable for gaming and can deliver high frame rates in many titles. The RTX 3050 is the much weaker part of this combination, so upgrading it should be the priority. Depending on pricing, look at current midrange cards rather than assuming you need to replace the CPU as well.
Upgrade the GPU first. The i5-12600K is still a capable gaming processor and shouldn’t hold back most modern graphics cards, while the RTX 3050 is likely the main reason you’re stuck using very low settings. A stronger GPU should provide a substantial improvement in image quality and frame rates, especially if you move beyond 1080p.
That makes sense. I average over 100 FPS now, but only with everything turned down to ultra-low settings.
Before buying a new card, check its power requirements and the connectors on your 650W Bronze PSU. That wattage should be adequate for many efficient midrange GPUs, but the exact model and condition of the power supply matter. You probably don’t need a CPU upgrade at the same time unless testing shows the 12600K is actually holding back your frame rate.
A GPU upgrade will help graphics performance, but it won’t automatically fix a CPU limit in a genuinely CPU-heavy game. Still, the 12600K is strong enough that it probably isn’t your immediate problem. Check your CPU and GPU usage while playing: if the GPU is near full utilization, upgrade the graphics card first; if one or more CPU cores are maxed while the GPU is underused, then the processor may be limiting performance.

Thanks! I bought the 3050 a while ago without researching enough, so I’m definitely ready to replace it.
