I'm considering upgrading my current gaming PC, which has a Ryzen 7 5700X, GeForce RTX 5060 Ti, and 32GB of memory. I could either replace the processor with a Ryzen 7 5800X3D or move to a newer platform, which would require a new motherboard and expensive DDR5 memory. The full platform upgrade would cost roughly twice as much in my country. Is the performance increase worth that investment, or should I stay with my current platform?

A newer platform does offer more performance and a better upgrade path, but that doesn’t automatically make it worthwhile today. Sell your current motherboard and processor if you decide to switch, and only make the move once you can afford the whole upgrade without compromising on the memory or motherboard.
If the 5800X3D costs around $430 while the newer platform would be about $800 or more, I’d either keep the 5700X or choose the less expensive processor upgrade. You could also consider a Ryzen 7 5700X3D if it’s available at a better price, then save for a future platform upgrade when memory and motherboard prices improve.
For this graphics card, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D is a well-balanced upgrade and should provide better minimum frame rates in CPU-limited games. A complete platform change would cost considerably more, and the improvement probably wouldn’t justify the price unless you’re targeting very high refresh rates or planning a much faster graphics card later.
Don’t upgrade just because the newer platform exists. If you aren’t having trouble reaching your desired frame rate, your current setup is fine. The main benefit of a processor like the 5800X3D would be smoother minimum FPS in CPU-heavy games, not a huge improvement in every title.
I’d only upgrade if your current system is actually struggling in the games you play. At 1440p, the 5700X is still capable, and a new platform may not feel dramatically different in normal use. Check benchmarks for your specific games before spending the money.
That makes sense in my situation. DDR5 alone is extremely expensive here, so moving platforms now would be a major extra cost for relatively small gains with an RTX 5060 Ti.
