I'm considering upgrading my current PC from AM4 to AM5. It has a Ryzen 7 5700X, an RTX 5060 Ti, and 32GB of RAM. I could replace the processor with a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, but DDR5 memory and the motherboard needed for AM5 are very expensive where I live. An AM5 upgrade would cost roughly $800, while a Ryzen 7 5800X3D alone is around $430. Is moving to AM5 worth the extra money, or would upgrading the CPU while staying on AM4 be the better choice?

Unless your current system is failing to deliver the frame rates you want, there’s no urgent reason to upgrade platforms. Check benchmarks for the games and resolution you actually use. At 1440p, the GPU will often be the limiting factor, so AM5 may not provide enough extra performance to justify the motherboard and DDR5 costs.
My recommendation would be to keep the 5700X for now unless you’re seeing CPU-related stuttering or low frame rates. Save the money for a complete AM5 upgrade later, and sell the existing CPU and motherboard when you switch. Upgrading only makes sense today if the 5800X3D or another X3D chip is available at a price you’re comfortable paying.
With an RTX 5060 Ti, staying on AM4 is probably the better value. A Ryzen 7 5800X3D would be a strong match, especially for CPU-heavy games, while a complete AM5 upgrade would cost considerably more for a performance improvement you may not notice in most situations.
The 5800X3D is good, but compare its local price with a 5700X3D or 5500X3D before buying. A cheaper X3D chip could give you most of the gaming benefit while letting you wait for AM5 memory and motherboard prices to become more reasonable.
If you want to keep the system for several more years, AM5 does offer a newer platform and future CPU upgrade options. However, it only makes financial sense if you can afford the full bundle comfortably. I would not spend hundreds more on DDR5 and a motherboard just to pair the new platform with a midrange GPU unless you also plan a stronger graphics card later.
That’s what I’m unsure about. I’m not upgrading because of a specific problem; I mainly want to know whether the long-term platform upgrade justifies the much higher price.
