Should I upgrade to a Ryzen 7 5700X3D or save for an AM5 rebuild?

I'm playing Battlefield at low settings with an RX 6700 XT, Ryzen 5 5600G, and 16GB of DDR4-3000 memory, but I'm only getting around 60–70 FPS. I'm guessing the processor is creating a significant bottleneck, possibly because the 5600G has only 16MB of L3 cache. My budget is pretty tight, so I'm deciding whether to upgrade my current AM4 system with a Ryzen 7 5700X3D or keep saving for a complete AM5 platform upgrade. Which option makes more sense?

AM4 is the cheaper option now, while AM5 makes more sense if you want a longer upgrade path later. If you can find a 5700X3D—or possibly a 5800X3D—at a reasonable price, upgrade the CPU and wait before moving to a new platform.

With a limited budget, the Ryzen 7 5700X3D is the sensible choice. It lets you keep your motherboard and DDR4 memory while providing a major improvement in CPU-limited games. You don’t need to rebuild the whole system just yet.

Before spending a lot, check what your 5600G is worth used. You may be able to sell it and replace it with a used Ryzen 5 5600 or 5600X for very little extra money. If that still isn’t enough, move up to the 5700X3D. AM5 is possible with inexpensive DDR5, but it will still cost considerably more overall.

If you’re already planning to keep the next platform for several years and can comfortably wait, saving for AM5 gives you a better upgrade path. But with your current budget, buying an X3D chip is the practical move rather than putting the entire build on hold.
