I'm planning a high-end dream PC and want to run fast DDR5 memory. I remember hearing that using four DDR5 modules often caused lower speeds or stability problems around 2023–2024. Has motherboard and firmware support improved since then, or is it still safer to buy two larger-capacity sticks? I'd like to balance high capacity with the best memory speed and reliability possible.

Four sticks can work, but you should expect compromises. Some systems may run the advertised speed after a BIOS update, while others need a lower setting or manual tuning. Memory rank also matters: four dual-rank modules place a heavier load on the controller than four single-rank modules. Capacity is useful if your games or applications actually need it, but for a high-speed gaming build, two higher-capacity DIMMs are usually the most dependable option.
