Thinking About Trying Linux for the First Time—Is Pop!_OS a Good Choice?

I'm considering installing Linux because Windows has started to feel frustrating and repetitive. I've never used a Linux distribution before, and my computer isn't especially powerful. It also has an NVIDIA Quadro graphics card. Would Pop!_OS be a suitable beginner-friendly option, and are there any setup tips or alternative distributions I should consider?

Before switching, remember that Linux isn’t just Windows with a different look. You’ll have to learn new tools and troubleshoot occasionally, but you’re also in control of the system. Learning a little terminal usage and keeping backups will make the transition much easier.

That makes sense. I’m expecting a learning curve, so I’ll try a few distributions from a live USB first instead of immediately replacing Windows.

Pop!_OS can work well, especially since it offers NVIDIA-specific installation images, but it may not be the smoothest choice right now. Fedora or Ubuntu are often easier starting points, and Zorin OS is another beginner-friendly option with a familiar desktop layout.

A few people have run into bugs with Pop!_OS’s newer desktop and window manager. Some users had a better experience after switching to Fedora or Bazzite, so it may be worth testing a few systems from a USB drive before installing anything permanently.
