My PC was built several years ago, with only the GTX 1660 replaced by an RTX 3060 and a TEAMGROUP SSD added later. The original MSI B450 TOMAHAWK motherboard failed, so a local repair shop replaced it with a Gigabyte B550 EAGLE WIFI6 motherboard. Less than a week later, that board also stopped working. The shop says AMD is unreliable and recommends building a completely new Intel-based PC, but I'm concerned they may be upselling me.
I'm trying to determine whether another component—especially my EVGA 600 BQ power supply—could be causing the failures. I'd also like to know which parts I can safely reuse. My current system has a Ryzen 5 2600X, 16 GB of DDR4-3000 memory, an RTX 3060, a 2 TB hard drive, a 1 TB Samsung 980 NVMe SSD, a 4 TB 2.5-inch SSD, a 600 W power supply, and a Cooler Master MasterBox Lite 5 RGB ATX case.
Would it make more sense to repair the AM4 system, upgrade to a Ryzen 5000 processor, or move to AM5 or Intel? I'd prefer to keep the case, storage, graphics card, and RAM where possible, and I may wait until around Christmas to upgrade. Also, does the B550 board officially support my Ryzen 5 2600X?

You can keep the RTX 3060, all three storage drives, the case, and possibly the power supply if it passes a proper test. A new AM4 build would only require a compatible motherboard and CPU, and your DDR4 memory could remain. A Ryzen 5 5600 or Ryzen 7 5700X would be a major improvement, while a 5800X3D-class chip would be the strongest gaming upgrade if you can find one at a reasonable price. You may need a cooler mounting kit depending on your current cooler.
One important detail is that B550 boards generally do not support Ryzen 2000 processors such as the 2600X. Even if the replacement motherboard was healthy, that CPU and board combination may be unsupported. A Ryzen 5000 chip would fit the AM4 platform much better, but verify the board’s CPU support list and BIOS version before buying. Also, the 600 W capacity is adequate for an RTX 3060 on paper, but the PSU’s condition and quality still need to be checked.
AM5 would require a new motherboard, DDR5 memory, and CPU, but you could still reuse the graphics card, drives, case, and potentially the cooler and PSU. Intel would involve a similar motherboard and usually memory decision. Since the RTX 3060 and storage are still usable, there’s no need to replace the whole computer unless testing finds several failed parts.
Two boards failing so quickly makes me suspicious of the power supply or another connected component rather than AMD itself. I’d stop installing replacement boards until the PSU and the rest of the system are tested. Ask for a refund or replacement for the recently installed board, and consider having it tested by a different shop. If the PSU is faulty, it could damage another motherboard.
That’s my concern too. The shop keeps blaming the motherboard and telling me to replace the entire PC, so I’m worried they’re trying to sell me a much more expensive build.

That would keep me on AM4, right? I’m weighing the cheaper repair and upgrade against moving to AM5, which would also require replacing the RAM and motherboard.
