I bought an iPhone 18 Pro in New York and later purchased AppleCare+ in the UK, where I now live. After accidentally cracking the front screen, I contacted Apple Support to make a claim under the UK policy. Apple initially offered Express Replacement, but later said technical problems prevented them from processing the request and escalated the case to engineering. I was then told that Apple Stores and repair centres currently have no replacement screens available for this newly released model.
I asked whether Apple could provide an equivalent UK or European model instead of the original US version, but my request was rejected. Apple referred to consumer-law rules and said accidental damage is not covered for a refund, even though I am making an AppleCare+ accidental-damage claim rather than seeking a refund for a manufacturing defect.
The UK AppleCare+ terms appear to say that Apple may provide a replacement when repair is impractical or uneconomical, reimburse the customer if neither repair nor replacement is possible, and provide a locally comparable replacement when a claim is made outside the country of purchase. I am trying to have the case escalated to Apple's insurance claims team and AIG, but I have not received a repair date or a practical alternative.
Has anyone had a US iPhone replaced with a UK or European equivalent under UK AppleCare+? Has anyone received reimbursement when Apple could not repair or replace a device? Would a formal complaint to the insurer, followed by the Financial Ombudsman Service if necessary, be the appropriate escalation route?

AppleCare replacements can be surprisingly strict about matching the exact model, storage configuration, and even colour. If the correct replacement unit is unavailable, the store or service centre may have to order one instead of providing a different regional variant. That could explain why they are refusing an immediate substitute, although they should still give you a clear timeframe or escalation path.
The lack of parts or replacement stock does not necessarily mean the claim is covered immediately by consumer-law refund rules, but it also should not leave an AppleCare+ claim open indefinitely. Ask specifically for the insurance claims process, the applicable reimbursement provision, and a written explanation of what happens when repair and replacement are unavailable. Keep records of every case number and conversation, then use Apple’s formal complaints process and contact the insurer before considering an ombudsman complaint.
A cross-border replacement may be possible, but Apple might need to source the exact regional version rather than substitute a local model. Someone reportedly took a US iPhone to an Apple Store in Spain and had to wait a few days while a US eSIM-only replacement was shipped in.
Do you know whether that involved the latest iPhone 18 Pro? The model and regional version seem to be important here.

That is my concern. I understand that stock can be limited, but Apple has not provided an estimated repair date or a definite alternative, so I am trying to get the claim assessed under the insurance terms rather than treated as a standard consumer-law refund request.
