I recently bought a Sapphire Nitro+ Special Edition RX 6900 XT for €390 on eBay. Was that a good deal, and which Nvidia GPU would be the closest equivalent in performance? I'm pairing it with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, if that makes a difference.

That’s a solid price, especially for the Nitro+ model. The closest Nvidia comparisons are generally the RTX 3080 Ti or RTX 4070, depending on the game. The 6900 XT has more VRAM, while Nvidia is usually better for ray tracing and features like DLSS.
€390 sounds good for that card. Local sold listings are the best way to judge the exact market price, but since you already have it, I wouldn’t stress over a small difference. It’s still a very capable 1440p card and can handle 4K gaming reasonably well.
The Nitro+ is one of the better-built versions of the 6900 XT, with a stronger cooler and power delivery than basic models. With a 7800X3D, your system is well balanced, so just enjoy it—€390 is a perfectly reasonable price for a high-end 1440p GPU.
The RX 6900 XT can sometimes perform around RTX 3080 Ti or even RTX 3090 levels in traditional rasterized games. Its ray-tracing performance is weaker, but the extra VRAM is useful for high-resolution textures. Given current European GPU prices, you could have paid much more for similar performance.

I have an RTX 3080 Ti, and a 7900 XT is somewhat faster overall. Even so, there isn’t a particularly compelling upgrade path for me right now unless a future generation offers a major performance jump.
