My son is building a gaming PC with a Radeon 9070 or 9070 XT, a Ryzen 5 7500X3D, and 32GB of RAM. I'd like to pair it with a 27-inch 1440p monitor that supports at least 144Hz and FreeSync. HDR and OLED aren't priorities, and I'm hoping to stay below $200. What models would you recommend, and are there any brands or monitors I should avoid?

Searching for 1440p, 165Hz, and IPS brings up plenty of options under $200. Acer, MSI, AOC, and Gigabyte all have established budget gaming monitors that fit those specifications, so comparing current sales and reviews is probably the best approach.
The Alienware 27-inch 1440p gaming monitor is worth considering if you can stretch slightly beyond $200. It’s one of the more affordable models recommended in several 1440p monitor roundups, and it supports a high refresh rate with adaptive sync.
I’d forgotten about monitor roundups like that—thanks! Is mini-LED generally the best image-quality option before moving up to OLED?

I’ve been looking at the Samsung Odyssey and Acer Nitro lines too. I already have an AOC monitor and like it overall, although the power button did fall off.
