What advice would you give someone new to Arch Linux?

I'm new to Arch Linux and currently have it installed alongside Debian and Windows because I need Windows for school. I'm using Arch mainly to learn more about it and decide whether I might eventually replace Debian with it. I've set up Timeshift for backups and have also experimented with NixOS, CachyOS, and Ubuntu for a university operating systems class. What tips would you give someone getting started with Arch?

Be aware that Arch follows a rolling-release model, so updates can occasionally require manual intervention or troubleshooting. If you want to use it as a daily system, keep a known-good live USB available, maintain backups, and avoid changing several major components at once. You can use the guided installer if you want, but a manual installation is a useful learning experience if you have the time.

That makes sense. I’ll keep Debian and the backups available while I learn, rather than treating Arch as my only system right away.

Whenever you hit a problem, search the Arch Wiki first. The documentation is usually more accurate and useful than pasting a random command from a search result. Stick with the official repositories whenever possible, and inspect AUR packages before installing them since they’re community-maintained. Arch can be reliable for years, but keeping backups and reading upgrade notices is important.

Take the time to learn how Arch is put together instead of blindly copying commands. The Arch Wiki is the best place to start, especially for installation, boot recovery, networking, and graphics setup. It’s also worth learning how to boot a live environment and chroot into your installation, because eventually something may break. Building the system carefully and fixing problems yourself teaches you a lot.
