I accidentally subscribed to an app's yearly plan. The pricing was confusing because the app displayed daily and weekly costs alongside the annual price, so I thought I was agreeing to weekly billing. After authorizing the purchase, I realized the full yearly amount—about $40—had been charged at once.
I cancelled the subscription immediately, didn't open the app or use any premium features, and submitted a refund request to Apple within about 20 minutes. This is my first refund request, and I haven't had a purchase this expensive before. I'm a student from a lower-income country, so the charge is significant for me.
How likely is Apple to approve the refund? Would contacting live support help, or should I simply wait for the request to be processed?

There’s no automatic rule that first-time requests are always approved. Some people get refunds for accidental purchases, but Apple can also deny them depending on the circumstances and account history. If the request is denied, you may have an appeal option, but the final decision still isn’t guaranteed.
You have a reasonable chance, especially since you acted quickly, cancelled the subscription, and didn’t use the premium features. Still, approval isn’t guaranteed—Apple reviews each request individually, so it’s best to wait for the decision.
I hope so. The confusing pricing was the main reason I made the mistake, and I submitted everything almost immediately.
I wouldn’t contact live support just to speed things up. Once a refund request has been submitted, phone or chat support generally can’t accelerate the review or payment. Check the request status through Apple’s purchase-refund page and wait for the result. If it’s denied, follow the available appeal process and clearly explain the confusing pricing, immediate cancellation, and lack of use.

Accidentally subscribing doesn’t automatically mean the purchase qualifies for a refund, although the lack of usage and the quick cancellation should support the request.
