I accidentally bought a brand-new, factory-sealed Kingston FURY Renegade Pro KF556R36RB-16 for about $115 in Poland. I thought it was standard 16GB DDR5-5600 gaming memory, but I missed the RDIMM designation. It is actually a 16GB DDR5-5600 CL36 ECC Registered DIMM with 1Rx8 organization and XMP 3.0 support. That means it probably will not work in a typical AM5 desktop motherboard. The confusing part is that Polish retailers list this exact model at wildly inflated prices, sometimes several thousand dollars per stick, although those listings may simply reflect extremely low availability rather than its realistic market value. Should I return it, try selling it, or find compatible workstation or server hardware to use it in?

If you cannot return it, list it clearly as a DDR5 ECC RDIMM and price it below the inflated retail listings. Specialized memory can be hard to sell, but someone with compatible server or workstation hardware may want it. Selling it is probably more practical than buying an entire system just to use one 16GB module.

You could keep it only if you have, or plan to build, a compatible workstation or server. RDIMMs include register and ECC functionality and generally require a motherboard and CPU platform that specifically support registered memory. A normal gaming motherboard usually will not accept it, so check the motherboard and processor documentation rather than relying on the fact that it is DDR5-5600.

The simplest option is to return it if the seller accepts returns. If that is not possible, sell it and use the money toward regular unbuffered desktop DDR5. Do not assume the extreme store listings represent its actual value; check completed sales and comparable RDIMM listings instead.
