I need to move our Kubernetes cluster out of the United States and into Canada. We currently use DigitalOcean, but we're looking for a provider that is headquartered outside the U.S. and operates data centers in eastern or central Canada. Managed Kubernetes would be ideal, though we're also open to running Kubernetes ourselves on virtual or bare-metal servers. Any recommendations or providers worth evaluating?

OVHcloud is probably the strongest fit. It’s a European company with a data center in Quebec, and it now offers managed Kubernetes there. You can also rent bare-metal servers and run your own cluster with something like Talos. The Quebec location has worked well for east-coast latency, and the pricing can make self-managing worthwhile.
There are a few other Canadian-owned providers offering Kubernetes or cloud infrastructure, including Fullhost, Patrii Cloud, and Micrologic. Their managed-service coverage and exact data-center locations may vary, so I’d verify the region, support model, backups, and control-plane architecture before committing.
Be careful to separate physical data residency from legal data sovereignty. A Canadian data center doesn’t necessarily mean the provider is outside U.S. jurisdiction. If the concern is exposure to laws such as the U.S. CLOUD Act, the company’s ownership and jurisdiction matter as much as where the servers are located.
Exactly. Some organizations only need the workloads physically stored in Canada, while others need the provider itself to be outside U.S. jurisdiction. Those requirements lead to very different provider choices.
Vexxhost is another Canadian option worth investigating. They’re based in Montreal and provide an OpenStack-based cloud, with Kubernetes tooling built around that platform. They may be especially suitable if you want more control over the underlying infrastructure or are considering a private-cloud approach.
I’ve heard positive things about their private cloud and would definitely include them in a Canadian-provider shortlist.
Good to know they have managed Kubernetes in Quebec now. I’ll keep OVHcloud near the top of the list, and may compare it with a self-managed bare-metal setup.
