I recently found my old gaming PC, which has an AMD FX-6300 processor, an R9 280X graphics card, 8 GB of RAM, and Windows 7. I've been away from PC gaming for years and would love some recommendations for games it can run well, especially anything great I might have missed.

For older PC classics, Freespace 2 is definitely worth checking out. You can also revisit lightweight favorites like SkiFree, Minesweeper, and 3D Pinball: Space Cadet if you want something extremely easy to run.
The R9 280X is in the general performance range of the GPU found in the base Xbox One. As a rough rule, games released on Xbox One should be playable at similar settings, usually around 1080p with some adjustments. Much more demanding games may run closer to 30 FPS, so lowering graphics settings or resolution could be necessary.
Windows 7 is probably the biggest limitation now. If the hardware supports it, upgrading to Windows 10 would improve compatibility and give you access to many more games. Adding another 8 GB of DDR3 RAM would also help, and the system should handle a lot of games released up through roughly 2020.
