I'm looking to buy my first gaming PC and have a budget of around £1,000 to £1,200. I mainly want to play games and already own a PS5. Is this a reasonable budget, and is there a good-value build that could offer strong performance without overspending?

Since this is mainly for gaming, make sure the budget covers the computer itself or clarify whether you also need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and operating system. Those extras can use up a significant portion of the budget. With the full £1,000–£1,200 going toward the PC, you should be able to build something noticeably more flexible than a console for PC-specific games and general use.
If you can stretch the budget to around £1,300, you’ll have access to a very strong-value build and I wouldn’t recommend cutting the budget much further if you want it to last. That should give you a balanced system with good gaming performance rather than forcing compromises on important components.
There are a couple of ways to reduce the price if necessary. A more affordable micro-ATX motherboard could save some money, and 16GB of RAM would be enough for gaming if you’re not planning to multitask heavily. Otherwise, keeping the rest of the build as proposed would make for a solid first PC.
