I have a budget of around €500 and want a graphics card with at least 12GB of VRAM, mainly to prepare for playing Fable when it releases. I'm looking for something that will last several years, similar to how well my GTX 1660 Super has served me. I'm familiar with Nvidia, but I'm open to switching to AMD if it offers better value. I may also upgrade my CPU later, since this is part of a longer-term system upgrade.

Nvidia’s current 16GB options often cost more than they’re worth in this price range. A used RTX 4070 Super could be a good alternative if you find one near €500, especially if you care about Nvidia features, efficiency, or software support. Otherwise, AMD generally offers more performance and VRAM for the money right now.
Don’t forget that moving up from a 1660 Super may expose limitations elsewhere in the system. If your CPU is older, plan on upgrading it after the GPU so the new card isn’t held back in CPU-heavy games.
That’s already part of the plan. The CPU will be my next major upgrade after I sort out the graphics card.
If you’re also considering local language models or image generation, VRAM capacity matters a lot, so the 16GB RX 9060 XT is attractive. However, Nvidia can still be easier to use for many AI applications because of CUDA and broader software compatibility. For gaming alone, the AMD cards are usually the better value at this budget.
For a strict €500 limit, the Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB is probably the most realistic new option. It should offer a substantial upgrade over a GTX 1660 Super while giving you plenty of VRAM. If you can stretch the budget by roughly €50–€150, an RX 9070 or 9070 GRE would be a much larger performance jump and a better long-term choice.
It’s worth checking the RX 7900 GRE on the used market. A 16GB model around €450–€500 can still be a very capable card, and owners report that it remains strong enough that upgrading isn’t urgent. Just check the card’s condition, warranty, and power requirements before buying used.
The 4070 Super sounds interesting, especially if it can be undervolted. I’m still comparing it with the AMD cards before deciding.
