I'm building my first PC and planning to use a 34-inch curved OLED monitor, likely at 3440×1440 resolution. My total PC budget is around $2,500–$3,000, and I'm trying to figure out what graphics card would be a good match for high settings and strong frame rates. Should I prioritize a higher-end GPU because the monitor is OLED?

A previous-generation high-end card such as an RTX 3080-class GPU can still perform very well at 3440×1440. In many games, it can deliver high settings and well over 100 FPS, though newer cards may offer better efficiency, features, and longer-term support.
The OLED panel itself doesn’t determine which GPU you need. Resolution, refresh rate, game settings, and your budget matter much more. For 3440×1440, something around an RX 9060 XT or RTX 5060 Ti 16GB could work, while an RX 9070 XT would give you much more headroom. Higher-end cards like an RTX 5080 or 5090 only make sense if you want maximum settings, ray tracing, or very high frame rates and have the budget for them.
Start with the monitor’s resolution and refresh rate rather than the OLED branding. A 34-inch ultrawide OLED is usually 3440×1440, so a strong midrange or upper-midrange GPU should handle it well. With a $2,500–$3,000 system budget, an RX 9070 XT-class card would be a sensible target, but you don’t need an extreme flagship GPU just because the display is OLED.
A premium display can look excellent even with a budget or midrange GPU, so don’t feel pressured to buy the most expensive graphics card. At the same time, a powerful GPU benefits more from a high-quality, high-refresh OLED than from a basic monitor. Choose the card based on the games you play and the frame rate you want, not simply the panel type.
