What GPU upgrade makes sense for my Ryzen 7 7700X build?

I upgraded my motherboard, CPU, memory, and case within the last six months, and now I want to replace my Radeon RX 6600 with a graphics card that has around 16GB of VRAM for modern gaming and game development. My current system has a Ryzen 7 7700X, Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX V2 motherboard, 32GB of DDR5-6000 memory, a 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, and a Thermaltake TR2 430W power supply. I'm currently gaming on a 21.5-inch 1920x1080 75Hz monitor. What GPU would be a good match, and should I upgrade the monitor or power supply at the same time?

A monitor upgrade may give you a bigger improvement than an expensive GPU. A reasonably priced 1080p 144Hz display paired with an RX 9060 XT 16GB would be a balanced setup. If you want a long-term 1440p build, consider a stronger card such as the RX 9070 XT, but upgrade the power supply first.

The biggest missing detail is your budget. Also plan on replacing the 430W power supply before installing a modern performance GPU. At 1080p and 75Hz, most 16GB cards would be excessive unless you’re planning to move to a higher-resolution monitor soon.

Cards such as the RX 9060 XT 16GB, RX 9070 XT, RTX 5060 Ti, RTX 5070 Ti, and RTX 5080 could all handle 1080p gaming, but they are very different in price and power usage. The 9060 XT 16GB is the more sensible option if you want to stay at 1080p, while the more powerful cards make more sense for 1440p or 4K.

A 9070 XT would be far more GPU than needed for a 1080p 75Hz display. It only makes sense if a monitor upgrade is part of the plan.

The RX 9070 GRE is also worth considering if it’s priced close to the 16GB RX 9060 XT in your area. Even with 12GB of VRAM, its wider memory bus and stronger overall performance can make it the better value for 1440p gaming. Either way, confirm the exact PSU model and replace that 430W unit with an appropriately rated modern supply.
