The Ryzen 7 5800X3D isn't available where I live, and high DDR5 prices mean I need to stay with DDR4. Which Intel processor offers the closest gaming performance while supporting a DDR4 platform?

The Core i5-14600KF is probably the closest practical choice. It works with either DDR4 or DDR5, performs very well in games, and is generally reasonable on power during normal gaming. It can draw considerably more if you remove power limits or push it hard, though.

If you have room in the budget, the 14700K or 14700KF is another option. It offers more cores and stronger productivity performance, but it also uses more power and may cost more than necessary if gaming is the only goal.

The i5-14600K or 14600KF would be a strong match for this use case. The 14600K includes integrated graphics, while the KF does not, so choose based on whether you want that backup feature. Both can be used with a DDR4 motherboard.

There isn’t a perfect Intel equivalent because no DDR4-compatible Intel chip has the 5800X3D’s large 3D-stacked cache. That cache helps in certain games, so performance depends heavily on the title. Still, the 13600K/KF and 14600K/KF are often as fast or faster overall, especially outside gaming.
