I went with an MSI X870 board and 32GB of 6000 CL30 memory from KLEVV, and the combination has been running well. There are plenty of comparable options, so I’d choose based on price and features instead of paying extra just for a particular memory logo.
I’d compare reasonably priced B650E, B850, X870, or X870E boards from MSI, ASUS, and Gigabyte. You don’t need a high-end chipset just for gaming, so prioritize a good VRM, BIOS support for the 9800X3D, enough M.2 slots, networking, and the rear I/O you actually need. Some builders still avoid ASRock because of earlier X3D-related concerns, but make sure you’re evaluating the specific model and current BIOS rather than assuming every board is equally affected.
For this platform, a 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30 kit is the usual sweet spot. The brand matters less than the actual specifications, warranty, and whether the kit includes AMD EXPO. Silicon Power, Corsair, G.Skill, and several other brands can perform essentially the same when the speed and timings match. Check that it’s a 2x16GB kit rather than a single 32GB stick.
ASUS, MSI, and Gigabyte all have plenty of suitable boards for this setup. The motherboard won’t meaningfully change gaming performance once it has stable power delivery and the features you need. For memory, EXPO is the easiest choice on an AMD system, although many XMP kits also work fine after enabling the profile in the BIOS.
