My main concern is avoiding a USB-A receiver that sticks out and gets damaged in my bag while I move between classes. Bluetooth would be ideal, though a compact receiver that sits nearly flush with the port would also work. I'd prefer rechargeable devices or excellent battery life, with a budget of under $100 per item. What models have worked well for you?

Take a look at the Logitech Spotlight if you want more than a standard laser pointer. Its on-screen spotlight and highlighting features make it much easier to draw attention to specific parts of a slide, especially in a classroom.
There are inexpensive Bluetooth presenters that also include a tiny recessed USB receiver, so the dongle sits almost flush when plugged in. They’re often around $30, and many have very long battery life. Check the receiver design and battery type in the specifications, since those vary more than the basic slide controls.
A Bluetooth mouse paired directly with your computer would avoid the damaged-dongle problem altogether. For the presenter, a model with both Bluetooth and a low-profile receiver gives you a backup connection method if Bluetooth pairing becomes inconvenient.
The Logitech MX Master 3S is a great full-size mouse, and the MX Anywhere 3S is a good choice if you want something more compact for carrying between classrooms. Both support Bluetooth and are rechargeable, though pricing can vary. For a presenter, the Logitech R500s is a reasonably priced Bluetooth option that covers the basics.
