What Nvidia GPU would be the best upgrade for my older gaming PC?

I'm planning to upgrade my gaming PC because newer games no longer run well, even on the lowest settings. My current system has a Gigabyte B360M D3H-CF motherboard, 16GB of 2666MHz RAM, an Intel i5-8600K at 3.6GHz, and a 6GB GeForce GTX 1060. I'd prefer to stay with Nvidia. Which graphics card would be the best match for this system, and would the CPU or RAM noticeably bottleneck a newer GPU?

If you want a newer, more efficient option, an RTX 4060 or a comparable current-generation 60-class Nvidia card could make sense. It offers newer features and lower power consumption, but the value depends heavily on local pricing. Make sure to compare it with a used 3060 Ti or 3070 rather than assuming the newer card is automatically faster.

Your i5-8600K is still usable for gaming, but it may limit higher-end cards in newer CPU-heavy games. I’d generally avoid going much beyond an RTX 3060 Ti or RTX 3070 unless you’re also planning a platform upgrade. The 16GB of RAM is adequate, although 32GB would help in some newer games and while multitasking.

The best choice depends on the games, resolution, target frame rate, budget, and power supply. For 1080p gaming, a 3060 is enough for a reasonable upgrade; a 3060 Ti or 3070 is better if you want more headroom. If modern AAA games are still limited by the processor, the long-term solution would be upgrading the motherboard, CPU, and possibly RAM as well.

An RTX 3060 is probably the safest balanced upgrade for this system, especially if you can find one at a good used price. An RTX 3060 Ti would provide a much larger performance jump, while an RTX 3070 could also work if the price difference is small. Before buying, check your power supply model and wattage, since a stronger card may require a PSU upgrade.
