I built PCs in the past, but my last build was about 12 years ago, so I'm pretty out of touch with current hardware. My existing computer has been mostly fine until recently, but I'm ready to build a new system. My budget is around $2,000, with some flexibility. This will be used primarily for gaming at 1440p, and I don't need peripherals. I'm located in the United States and can shop at Micro Center, preferably at the Jersey or Philadelphia-area stores, though I could also travel to locations around New York if necessary. What parts or prebuilt options would you recommend?

A Ryzen 5 7600X3D paired with 16GB of DDR5 memory and a Radeon RX 9070 would be a strong choice for 1440p gaming. That combination should handle high settings very comfortably, and the total build cost should be around $1,500 depending on current prices.
There are also prebuilt systems around the $2,000 range that offer very good value, especially ones using an X3D processor and a modern high-end graphics card. Just check the memory speed and the power supply before buying; some systems use slower 5200MHz DDR5, which is usable but not ideal, and the included PSU or cooling may be less impressive than the headline specifications.
Micro Center’s CPU bundles are worth checking first. A Ryzen 7 7500X3D bundle around $400 could leave plenty of room in the budget for a GeForce RTX 5070 or Radeon RX 9070 XT. For 1440p ultra settings, the 9070 XT would be especially appealing if you can find one in stock.
I’d definitely check inventory at the Jersey and Philadelphia-area stores first. GPU availability can vary a lot by location, so it’s worth confirming stock before making the trip.
