I'm getting back into PC gaming after several years away and could use help planning a new build. The main games I want to play are Escape from Tarkov, Overwatch, Marvel Rivals, Minecraft, Helldivers, and Battlefield.
My priorities are keeping noise reasonable, maintaining healthy component temperatures without throttling, and achieving roughly 144 FPS at 1440p during gameplay. I also want to avoid GPU sag and would prefer components and a case that make cable management straightforward.
I initially considered a lower-wattage system to keep temperatures and noise down, but I'm unsure whether that would provide enough performance. My budget is flexible; around $2,000 is a starting point, but I can spend more if necessary to meet these goals. I'm located in the United States. What parts, case, and cooling approach would you recommend?

If you happen to live near a major PC retailer, check whether they offer processor, motherboard, and memory bundles. Those can reduce the cost enough to put more of the budget toward the graphics card. Otherwise, prioritize a current gaming-focused CPU, 32GB of memory, a fast 1TB or 2TB NVMe SSD, and a case with good front-to-back airflow and built-in cable-routing space. The exact parts should be selected after checking current prices and availability rather than locking into a specific list too early.
For Tarkov and competitive games, an X3D processor is a strong choice because its extra cache can improve gaming performance and reduce frame-time dips. Current options include the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 9800X3D, or newer equivalent, depending on pricing. X3D chips are designed mainly for gaming; they generally outperform standard X models in games, while G models are usually aimed at systems using integrated graphics and are not the best choice when you’re buying a dedicated GPU.
For 1440p at high refresh rates, look at graphics cards around the Radeon RX 9070 XT or GeForce RTX 5070 Ti tier, or better if you want more headroom in demanding games. A 16GB card is preferable for newer titles. Use a parts compatibility tool and compare prices in the United States before buying, since some midrange cards can be poor value when heavily marked up.
A $2,000 budget may be workable, but a build centered on a 9070 XT or 5070 Ti can push the total closer to $2,300 depending on the CPU, case, storage, and local prices. You do not need an unusually low-wattage system to keep it cool and quiet. A quality power supply, a well-ventilated case, a good tower air cooler, and sensible fan curves will usually matter more than choosing the lowest possible power rating.
For avoiding GPU sag, choose a case with an included support bracket or add an adjustable support stand. Several modern cases include built-in support, which also avoids relying entirely on the motherboard slot. A solid airflow-focused case will help prevent heat soak while keeping fan speeds reasonable.
