The PS5 version of Minecraft has been struggling to maintain 60 FPS with Fancy graphics, and I'm tired of dealing with stuttering. I'd prefer Java Edition, though a smooth Bedrock experience would also be acceptable. I don't need an enormous render distance—around 60 FPS would be fine, and 120 FPS would be ideal. I already have a monitor and don't need to budget for extras. Is it realistic to build or buy a PC for no more than $600 CAD that can run Minecraft smoothly?

When comparing used systems, prioritize the GPU, then check the CPU and RAM. A machine with something around a GTX 1060 or GTX 1660 Super paired with an i3-10100 or similar should be capable of delivering a much smoother Minecraft experience, particularly at moderate render distances. There are listings around or below $600 CAD that match that general level of hardware.
Used is definitely the way to go for this budget, but inspect the system carefully because private sales often have no return policy. Ask for the exact CPU, GPU, and amount of RAM before buying, since those parts matter much more than the seller’s general claim that it is a gaming PC.
A new self-built system is probably unrealistic at that budget, especially with current component prices. Your best option is likely a used desktop from the local market. Focus on finding the strongest graphics card and a reasonably modern CPU within your price range.

The operating system shouldn’t be a deciding factor by itself. Windows can be upgraded or reinstalled, so a Windows 10 machine can still be worth considering if the hardware is good and compatible with your needs.
