What Power Supply Should I Get for My First Build with a 5070 GPU?

I'm building my first PC and considering a 5070 graphics card. The specs from Nvidia suggest that I need at least a 650W power supply, but I've noticed people often go for something in the range of 650W to 800W just to be safe. I was thinking of getting an MSI 650W PSU to save some cash for a cooler-looking AIO. I'm pairing it with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D. Is 650W enough, or will it bottleneck? I'm not planning on upgrading the GPU for at least five years. I'm also open to other brands or models cheaper than MSI as long as they provide enough power.

Honestly, going for a PSU that focuses on looks might not be the best approach. Your Ryzen 7 9800X3D can do well with air cooling, so maybe prioritize quality over aesthetics. You're right that a 650W power supply should suffice for your current needs, but for a bit of headroom, consider stepping up to a 750W or 850W. It'll ensure you're covered for any future upgrades too!

I totally agree! It's better to be safe than sorry. A higher wattage PSU gives you more flexibility.

True, but sometimes you just want your PC to look good too, right?

You can definitely check out pcpartpicker.com to narrow down your options for PSUs compatible with the 5070. Just pick your country, and it'll help you filter through your choices easily. Based on your total power need of 490W, a 650W PSU should be just fine for now, so you should be in a good spot!

That's super helpful! I didn’t realize how easy that site made it.

If you're building a new rig, I'd recommend considering a PSU in the 750W or 850W range just to be safe. It's often better to have some extra wattage for future components or if you decide to overclock later on.
